Wood Shutters

Our Wooden shutters are the most versatile option in our range, suitable for most windows, doors, and interiors. They’re made from high-quality wood sourced from sustainably managed forests.

Our Hardwood Shutter Collection

MYT only uses premium hardwoods to ensure durability and long-term performance. While MDF (Medium Density Fibreboard) and EWC (Engineered Wood Composite) are widely used as cost-effective alternatives, they are heavier, less adaptable, and more sensitive to moisture over time, offering a limited lifespan and lesser finish compared to solid hardwood.

BASSWOOD

PAULOWNIA

CEDAR

Our Hardwood Shutter Collection

MYT only uses premium hardwoods to ensure durability and long-term performance. We never use MDF (Medium Density Fibreboard) or EWC (Engineered Wood Composite) for our shutter panels, as these materials can warp over time and don’t offer the same strength, quality or finish as solid hardwood.

Wooden Shutters

All our timber shutters are designed for interior use and offer a natural, high-quality finish. They’re available in a range of styles, including stained options which will have a visible woodgrain for a more natural, unique and warm look.

Need shutters for special-shaped windows? Our wooden window shutters can be custom-made to fit almost any shape or opening. For outdoor areas, we recommend Cedar shutters as these have natural characteristics to endure the elements. For a more sturdy and durable outdoor option we always recommend our Aluminium shutters.

how Wood Shutters work

While the appearance of your wood window shutters matters, their functionality is just as important. Because plantation shutters are fixed to the frame, it’s essential they allow you to open your windows and doors easily and adjust the blades to control light and airflow in your home.

How your shutters are configured will depend on your window or door type, as well as how you use the space. Below are the most common wood shutter configurations:

Shutter panel function:

  • Hinged – swings open like a door
  • Sliding – panels slide past each other on a track
  • Bifold – panels fold together on a track
  • Fixed – non-opening panel for static coverage

Blade tilting options:

  • Centre or offset tilt rod – a traditional, classic look
  • Clearview – discreet connector connecting the back of the blades
  • SupaTilt – hidden internal mechanism for a clean, modern look

FAQ

Wood shutters offer a natural, durable, and versatile window covering that suits a wide range of interiors. They provide excellent insulation, effective light and airflow control, and can be customised with painted or stained finishes to match your style.

Solid wood shutters are also long-lasting and made from sustainable materials, making them a practical and environmentally friendly choice for your home. They can also be custom-made to fit almost any window shape, including arched, angled, or round designs.

In our wooden shutters range, you can choose a painted, stained, oiled, or lacquered finish, depending on the material.

  • Painted: MYT Shutters offers 15 modern colours, plus custom options (RAL, Dulux, Resene). We use eco-friendly, water-based paints, safe for the whole family. Looking for a classic white wood shutter with a smooth painted finish? Basswood or Paulownia are our most popular choices for a clean, timeless look.
  • Stained: Highlight the natural wood grain with our stain finishes for a warm, organic look. For a stronger, beach look texture, opt for a Paulownia Rustic finish. A more subtle, yet still visible texture White Teak is your best choice.
  • Oiled or Lacquered: Available exclusively for Western Red Cedar shutters to enhance its natural red-brown tones. Colour variation is expected between the blades and panels, as it showcases the wood’s authentic beauty.

Yes, plantation shutters can significantly help reduce heat loss through windows, making your home more energy efficient. Solid wood panels create an insulating barrier that helps retain warmth in winter and block heat in summer. According to industry studies, shutters can reduce heat loss by up to 33%, helping lower energy bills and improve indoor comfort.

Yes, shutters are a safe and family-friendly window covering. Unlike blinds with cords, plantation shutters have no dangling parts, reducing the risk for children and pets to get tangled up. At MYT, we use low-VOC, water-based paints on all our wood, aluminium, and polymer shutters, making them safe for indoor use and free from harmful chemicals.

To keep your wooden shutters in great condition, dust them regularly with a soft cloth or microfibre duster. For deeper cleaning, use a slightly damp cloth with mild, non-abrasive soap, avoid excess water to prevent damage to the timber finish. Never use harsh chemicals on wood shutters, as they can cause discolouration or damage to the finish.

Proper maintenance helps extend the life of your timber shutters and keeps them looking their best.

Yes, wood shutters are one of the most sustainable window covering options available. Their natural insulating properties and dual closure feature help regulate airflow, tilt the blades up to release heat in summer or down to retain warmth in winter.

At MYT Shutters, we go further by ensuring our wood plantation shutters are made responsibly. We use sustainably sourced wood, recycle 100% of our material cutoffs, filter and reuse water, and use plastic-free, eco-friendly packaging, making our wood shutters a smart, sustainable choice for your home.

Most definitely!  MYT Shutters partners with retailers across The United Kingdom to supply high-quality wood, aluminium, and polymer shutters.
